DET International is part of the NSW Department of Education. Their purpose is to promote NSW education institutions to prospective overseas students. Across Translation is a preferred translation service provider for both the NSW Department of Education and DET International.
DET International approached a number of agencies to quote on the localisation of two microsites. Across Translation demonstrated the right combination of quality, service and experience to win the project.
The project involved the localisation of the TAFE NSW and Schools NSW Microsites into 9 foreign languages. Across Translation consulted with DET International about their specific target countries in order to optimise their international marketing efforts.
From our discussions, we discovered that most of DET International’s Spanish speaking students come from various Latin American countries. The most practical solution was to provide a 'neutral' translation that could be understood by all Spanish speaking people across Latin America. The advantage of a neutral translation is that it avoids utilising specific colloquialisms and expressions that are particular to one country and instead uses a neutral language that is easily understood by the entire region.
With Portuguese, differences exist between the Brazilian and European Portuguese language so it was important to choose the right mother tongue translators. The majority of DET International’s Portuguese speaking students come from Brazil so we selected a team of native Brazilian Portuguese translators to ensure the translations were culturally appropriate for their prospective students.
DET International had their own bilingual staff review our translations. We received very positive feedback on the quality of our translations and we were not required to make further changes after the review.
Across Translation successfully met DET International’s expectations on quality, service and timelines for their website localisation project. Soon after we completed the project, DET International ordered further work to translate their International Study Tour Flyer into five foreign languages.
Across Translation worked with the latest Translation Memory Technology for this project to optimise the quality of the translations and provide cost and time savings to the client.
