“When we launched our skin care products internationally, we needed a reliable partner to regularly provide accurate and cost effective translations into 15 languages. Across Translation has consistently delivered these results for us and makes each translation project a seamless process” Natalie Hudson, Skin Doctors
Alstom is a world leader in power generation and the development and production of transport. Alstom develops and manufactures various systems of power generation including, gas, wind, hydro, nuclear, geothermal and solar power.
When Alstom Australia imported a gas turbine from Germany, the operation and maintenance manuals for the machine needed to be translated from German into English for their Australian staff to use. The manuals consisted of 13 volumes plus additional folders of complex engineering drawings. The total word count for this project was more than one million words – making it one of the largest single language projects ever produced in Australia at the time. Only one of set of manuals was available to Across Translation in hardcopy format.
When Across Translation was invited to quote for this project, the first challenge was to produce a quote for a very large project within a short period of time. We didn’t have electronic copies to work from, so Across Translation’s staff visited Alstom and devised a method to accurately quote the manuals in a short period of time. Once this was accomplished and our quote accepted by Alstom, Across Translation’s team really got to work.
The Across Translation Team enjoys a challenge and the Alstom project presented a few due to the size of the job and because we only had a single hard copy to work from.
Our project managers directed all activities including file management, selected the right translation team, developed a unique customised workflow and supervised all Quality Assurance Procedures.
To meet Alstom’s specific deadlines, we assembled a large team of 13 fully qualified translators, with each translator meeting our strict selection criteria in technical translations.
The lead translator for the project was a qualified engineer and experienced senior member of our linguistic team. He did a fantastic job to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the translated technical and industry-specific terminology across all manuals.
The translation and typesetting of hundreds of complex engineering drawings required a high level of experience and expertise from the Across Translation typesetting team and were able to deliver a high quality final product for Alstom.
The experience and knowledge of Across Translation’s management team combined with the selection of the right linguistic and technical resources for this project enabled Across Translation to deliver a quality translation of a complex project within the agreed timelines for Alstom.
